How we rate fish oil gummies
Updated · Published
FishOilGummies.com compares omega-3 gummies on what their labels actually say. We don't accept free products or payment for placement, and every score comes from the formula below.
Where the numbers come from
- Label data: 22 of 23 products are transcribed from the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements' Dietary Supplement Label Database, which archives the actual Supplement Facts panels. The rest come from the brand's own published panel. Every product page links to its source and shows the label date.
- Prices: spot checks at Amazon and brand stores, last on 2026-09-29. Prices move daily; we show the check date and use the lowest verified price per gummy for value math.
- Market research: we looked at what ranks on Google and sells on Amazon for “fish oil gummies” to decide which products to cover, then verified each one against a label.
The Omega Score (0–100)
| Component | Points | How it's calculated |
|---|---|---|
| Potency | 45 | EPA + DHA per labeled serving on a log scale: 25 mg = 0, 1,000 mg = full marks |
| Sugar per dose | 20 | Grams of sugar you'd eat to reach 250 mg EPA + DHA: 0 g = full marks, 20 g or more = 0 |
| Value per dose | 15 | Cost per 250 mg EPA + DHA on a log scale: $0.25 = full marks, $3 = 0. Unknown price = half marks |
| Transparency | 20 | EPA and DHA itemized (8), oil form disclosed (4), independent testing such as USP, IFOS or published batch results (8) |
Products with no EPA or DHA (flax/chia-only “omega” gummies) are capped at 15, because they can't do what buyers expect fish oil to do. Grades: 85+ excellent, 70+ good, 50+ fair, 30+ weak, below 30 poor.
Why these weights?
Potency gets the most weight because dose is where gummies fail most: the median gummy we track has about 34 mg of EPA + DHA. Sugar is scored per useful dose, not per gummy, since a low-dose gummy with “only 1.5 g” of sugar can mean 13 g a day at a real dose. Taste isn't scored because it's personal; we note it where it's relevant.
Reference amounts we use
- 250 mg/day EPA + DHA: baseline adult adequate intake (EFSA)
- 500 mg/day: common general-health target
- 1,000 mg/day: AHA amount for people with coronary heart disease, under medical supervision

Limitations
- We haven't lab-tested products ourselves; we rely on labels and third-party certifications.
- Brands reformulate. Where a label on file is old, we say so on the product page.
- We only list products we could verify. Many Amazon-only brands don't publish a verifiable label.
